Dinner after Aruba

We reach our rooms at 6pm, and scramble through the showers to remove the salt and sand grime. I had sand in some unexpected places, I must say. And it took two soaks of shampoo to get all the salt out of my hair. Out of the shower, I took a look in the mirror – cocoa brown tan in front, and scarlet red on my back. Apparently my darling niece Caitlin puts the sunscreen on in a thinner layer than I do – although my back is the color of a cooked lobster shell, my arms are just plain brown. Oh well. She was kind enough to spread the Solarcaine Aloe Vera gel on the burnt part of my back. (The burn could have been the result of the 2.5 hours with my backup in the sunshine. But dang, those fish were worth it.)

Dinner was fabulous as always, but Mark decided to hit the buffet instead of joining us girls in the dining room. Caitlin ordered a leg of lamb, I had grilled tiger shrimp, and Sharon chose the chicken marsala. For dessert, I had the warm chocolate cake AND a piece of the tiramisu. Yum-o. We girls also asked our waiter what was in the little colored shot glasses that we saw the bartender carrying around each night. Apparently every night they have a different recipe of liqueurs and the shot glass is a souvenir cup. We ordered that night’s specialty (red shot glass) and then decided we should probably “catch up” on the set by ordering the prior night’s drink, which had a blue shot glass. This was the night that the waiters on all 3 decks of the Main Dining Room marched around the room, clapping, then stood on the stairs and sang “O Solo Mio” to the guests.
