Shopping in Willemstad, Curacao
Our first goal was to get to the “downtown” area of Willemstad, Curacao, and our second was to find a place to park. The first goal was a whole lot easier to reach. We walked around the marketplace for a while and looked in several of the little shops. I found a pair of abalone and sterling silver earrings for $5. It was hotter than the dickens today (which begs the question, how hot are dickens?). Within an hour or two, we opted to plop ourselves into chairs under a large Heineken patio umbrella at a corner bistro. We ordered lemonade, but it was much more limey than lemony. Still, it hit the spot.
Then we shopped for a while longer. I had talked myself into a pair of Australian Fire Opal gold earrings with a matching necklace (good prices, but definitely not cheap), and the sales lady was working on wrapping up my purchases when their modem died. They tried a different phone line, but still no modem, so no charge card option. The repair guy wouldn’t get there for a while, and we had to get moving because it was a shorter port day (had to be back on board by 4:30pm). Maybe it was a sign. I left my purchases behind and we drove back to the ship.
