Flamingos and more
At the ship, we all quickly changed into swim suits, sans shorts, and grabbed snorkeling gear. On the way out, I stopped at the little marketplace on the pier and bought a set of peach-pink colored freshwater pearls for $42 – matching necklace and earrings – that I had spotted earlier that morning. If I couldn’t have the Fire Opals, I was going to at least get the pearls. So there!
The next stop on the agenda was to find the privately owned snorkeling beach at Porto Mari. Some roads (not all) have names on the map, but few of those names actually make it out to the roads themselves. We took a few wrong turns but didn’t lose much time. On the way to the beach, we passed the protected water flats where some flamingos live. They were at a bit of a distance, so I was unable to get very good photos. On the other hand, the flamingos weren’t actually doing anything – other than honking and sounding exactly like Canada geese – so I didn’t miss much.
